The Big Day: Part 2 of the Bullrush-Fletcher story
Today is the wedding day! Daniel and Lydia will tie the knot at the beautiful rooftop venue at Briar Hall, with their friends and family.
First to arrive is of course, Foxbridge's mentor. Kirk Silk comes wearing his freshly washed cassock. Wife June is on hand to play the music, and watch babies Ava and Allie during the ceremony. Kirk is a fairly young mentor, and rather nervous.
Next, the Coral family. Adelaide and Albury have never looked smarter before- their own wedding had to be hurried, sadly, and they have even splashed out on new shoes for Bendigo, and a blossom for Ballarat.
Best man Jack Meadows wears a blue suit to match the groom, while his wife, Alexa, has treated herself to one of the city's newest and most popular fashions. Baby Maisie is excited for her first wedding.
The Solitaire cat family is always smart, being the designers in town. Oldest daughter Ingrid has a pretty purple hat, while Imogen, Isabella and Isaac are wearing clean and special clothes. Parents Noel and Violet are rather proud of their brood.
Cousin Julienne has come to see the ceremony, wearing a pretty pink dress.
Mayor Sidney Marlowe and his wife, Nadine, are letting Daniel and Lydia use their rooftop venue for free. They love a wedding, but decided that their five daughters might be a little too excited so have come on their own.
Finally, the children of the happy couple! Daniel's daughter, Mia, is going to be the bridesmaid, and is very excited indeed. Lydia's daughter, Parker, is to be the page boy.
Daniel nervously chats to Parker and his best man, as he waits for the wedding to begin. The congregation can't wait!
Mia comes down the aisle first, in her beautiful blue dress. She feels like a princess.
And then... here comes the bride! Lydia feels very shy but happy as she floats along. She has never worn such a fancy dress, but Daniel can't believe his eyes!
Kirk proceeds with the ceremony, glad he is doing well!
"And now, do we have the wedding bracelet?" Parker's job goes to plan.
"I now pronounce you, man and wife, lovers for life, all to share, the happiest pair," says Kirk, "You may kiss your beautiful bride, Daniel!"
Parker and Mia are a little embarrassed at their parents, to say the least.
Later, there is a party! Everyone dances, and there is joking and talking all around.
Reporters Ballarat and Bendigo speculate on the cake- what flavour is under that yummy looking icing?
Isaac and Parker have a serious discussion on brotherhood. "I'd say sisters are alright. Imogen whines a lot, Isabella always gets more candy and Ingrid tells me what to do, but they do have fun sometimes. I like tying Immie to the floor and pretending to run my train over her if she doesn't escape." says Isaac.
"I think Mia's a bit big for that. She's great fun, though. She always shares her treats, and we love playing board games together." says Parker. He and Mia would never admit to anyone else that they are best friends.
At the end of the party, when the other guests have left, Nadine and Sidney come up to the happy couple, holding a map of Sylvania.
"We have a gift for you, my dears," says Sidney. "Parker mentioned to Rose and Blossom that you aren't having a honeymoon. We couldn't have that."
"You must borrow our car and take a week or two! We'll have the children, they are such darlings."
"Well..." says Daniel.
"Oh, no! They couldn't possibly be any trouble!" coos Nadine, fortunately not turning around.
"We'd love to!" says Lydia, and smiles for the thousandth time that day. "It sounds absolutely perfect."
"Just like you, my sweetheart." Daniel says, and gives her another sweet kiss.
THE END
I loved planning, writing and photographing this! Apologies for the lack of backdrop, I just don't have room for one. I made the following outfits:
The Solitaire family (aside from Ingrid's hat)
Parker Bullrush-Fletcher
June Silk
Kirk Silk (he is wearing the lollipop man trousers, though)
Alexa Meadows outfit is the current Sylvanian Club Magazine free gift (Summer 2018 issue), with Ingrid's hat also part of this.
Julienne Bullrush is a problem! I was given her a week after writing the original story with Daniel, Mia, Parker and Lydia, or she would have been cast as another child. I think she may come and stay frequently, or become adopted. I'll have to see!
For the wedding, a few little notes: Foxbridge isn't a religious place so the values Kirk promotes are traditionally Sylvanian- love, kindness and wisdom, as well as helping others, being a good friend, etc. Marriage is legal between two critters of any gender, sexuality or identity, and love is very important! Kirk's role as mentor is to help everyone make good choices and be a helpful figure in the community. His outfit is slightly different to that of a priest/vicar, and is an official uniform- he tends to wear his cosy old trousers and jumper when he's at home. The book he holds is the Foxbridge Record, which records marriages and important events such as births. (It is a DollsHouseShop bible, hence the cross, but our smartest miniature book!)
Thanks for reading!
