The Blackberry family
Meet the Blackberry family- parents Roberta and Amos, and their children, son Reid and daughter Mika.
Roberta is an artist- she knows how to match colours, and used nature as an inspiration for her kitchen and bedroom. She teaches art to every child in the village- the older kids love her popping in to teach at Foxbridge Academy, while the little ones enjoy her classes at the nursery and her club at the weekend.
Amos is an excellent greengrocer- he is on good terms with both Farmer Underwood, and Mr Goodfellow, who owns the general store. He is so good natured, and makes sure that any of his customers with new babies or illness in the family have fresh vegetables by delivering them to the door. Amos' favourite vegetable is cabbage, and he always saves the juiciest one for dinner after a busy market day. Amos loves music, and relaxes when he comes home by playing his old favourites before dinner.
Reid is kind and tries to be a good friend and good son. He makes Roberta a cup of tea every single morning, now he is old enough to use the kitchen safely, and he makes lunches for his father, himself and his sister after breakfast. He always helps in school, but loves breaktime as he can run and climb with his friends. He also loves making up adventures outside with his toys.
Mika takes after Roberta, and loves art. She is very creative, and enjoys painting and drawing on her easel. She sends pictures to her grandparents, who love seeing them, and always makes great birthday cards for her family and friends. She is the most untidy member of the family, but Reid is very patient and makes his sister's bed and tidies their bedroom area without a second thought!
Mika and Reid get on very well together, and the whole house always feels calm. Roberta and Amos are quite a busy family, although they would love to foster or adopt a baby one day.
Downstairs, the natural tones of brown and green are calm and relaxing for everyone. The piano was Roberta and Amos' wedding present, and everybody in the family enjoys playing. Mika loves the photos of the family that are up, and looks at them everyday. The kitchen table doesn't have enough chairs, but there's the piano stool and Reid and Mika are small enough to share a chair for now. Roberta made the cushions herself.
Upstairs, the colours blue and yellow make the room look bright and inviting. Mika and Reid have matching duvets, but picked their own pillows. Mika's easel is her favourite toy, while the boat that Reid and Amos made together has pride of place by Reid's bed.
Roberta and Amos' bed is perfect for family cuddles together, and the laundry basket has a fluffy towel and spare blanket for anyone in need.
Thanks for checking out Orchard Cottage and the Blackberry family! I love this group, and have warmed to them so much since getting them. They are all second hand, from different lots, hence the various states of their fur and flocking. I made all soft furnishings except for the duvets on Mika and Reid's beds- and love how this turned out!

Lovely house, Fox! You should be proud of it! Everything matches perfectly and the coordination of colours is fantastic. It actually feels very cosy and a comfortable and relaxing place to live. I love the fabric you used for the the cushions, tea towel, tablecoth and curtains in the kitchen. The duvets as always, are also very nice. You did a very good job!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cutata! I love this cottage and have four in my collection. I learned a lot about colour matching from your wonderful craft and photography. My boyfriend read "The Hobbit" out loud to me while I decorated them, so I think some of the cosy nature of that book rubbed off on me and into the cottage!
